Is it safe down there?

Absolutely. As an American female, I have lived here alone, often walking alone, and never had a single thing stolen from me and have experienced nothing but kind, wonderful people. Sure, if you act like an idiot, things can go awry, but if you a respectful person, Nicaragua, is an incredible place to live! A recent study by the Inter-American Institute on Human Rights and a survey of police forces in the Americas show that Nicaragua is the safest country in Central America and one of the safest countries in the world.
