San Juan del Sur, once a small fishing village, has since revealed it's appeal to travelers and surfers alike, and become quite the vacation destination. Inhabited by year round locals and folks who just can't leave, San Juan has grown to nearly 5,000 people. It harbors five-star resorts, Yoga, Ziplining, Sailing, Salsa Dancing and mouth-watering restaurants serving Meditteranean, Italian, Fine American, Sushi, and of course Nicaraguan Typico cuisine. Many shops and adventure companies have sprouted and the nightlife soars nearly every night of the week.
Not too far from this bustling metropolis lies the epicenter of San Juan surfing tourism, Maderas beach. Still rural and un-crowded, Maderas offers consistent surf and gorgeous scenery.
